The interoperability gap

The infrastructure problems we solve.

Most health systems are not missing clinical capability. They are missing the infrastructure layer underneath - the one that connects systems, resolves patient identity, enforces consent, and makes data flow reliably across every facility.

Problem
Without
With AJ FHIR + Jam
Legacy HL7v2 systems
No FHIR translation layer. Messages pile up in a proprietary engine or get lost.
JamBridge: native MLLP reception, 7 message types, FHIR R4/R5 output - zero mediator code. JamBridge
Multi-facility patient identity
Same patient in five systems with five different IDs. No deduplication, no golden record.
AJ MPI: probabilistic matching, golden records, IHE PDQm/PIXm/PMIR conformant. AJ MPI
SMART on FHIR integration
Custom extensions that break on every EHR major release. SMART v1 only in most deployments.
AJ FHIR Auth Server: native SMART v2.2, PKCE S256, no extensions, survives every upgrade. Auth Server
Patient consent enforcement
Consent captured on paper or in a separate system. Not enforced at the data layer.
AJ FHIR Consent Manager: deny-by-default at the FHIR layer, patient portal, full audit trail. Consent Mgr
Integration infrastructure cost
Proprietary integration engine: $50K-500K/year, closed source, vendor lock-in.
Apache 2.0 core. No licence cost. Auditable. Commercial support available without lock-in. Apache 2.0
Cross-facility clinical data
Shared Health Record impossible without a common patient identity anchor.
JamSHR: IPS summaries across all connected facilities once MPI and Bridge are live. JamSHR
SMART on FHIR layer demo

The auth and data access layer, live.

This simulation walks through the SMART App Launch v2.2 flow in detail - EHR launch token, PKCE S256 exchange, consent enforcement, FHIR data access, and IHE ATNA audit. 34 annotated steps.

This demo covers the AJ FHIR SMART layer. For a walkthrough of JamBridge (HL7v2 pipeline), AJ MPI (patient matching), or the full Jam HIE stack - book a technical call and we will walk you through a live environment.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions from hospital IT teams

Yes. Tested against Epic's SMART launcher. Register in App Orchard, set the redirect URI, and the Auth Server handles the EHR launch flow including Epic-specific scope normalisation.
Yes. Cerner uses .read scope format instead of Epic's .rs format. The platform normalises both automatically, tested against Cerner's Code Console sandbox.
Yes. JamBridge receives HL7v2 MLLP feeds natively on seven ports - ADT, ORU, ORM, OML, MDM, RDE, SIU. It transforms to FHIR R4/R5, enriches with patient identity from AJ MPI, and routes to your HAPI FHIR server. No separate integration engine needed.
Yes. AJ MPI provides probabilistic patient matching with golden record management across all connected facilities. IHE PDQm and PIXm conformant. Every HL7v2 message processed by JamBridge is enriched with a golden patient ID before the FHIR write, so the same patient appears as one record regardless of which facility they attended.
AJ FHIR is the open source foundation - Apache 2.0, free to use, community maintained. The AJ prefix (Akriti Jamwal) marks all OSS components. Jam is the commercial product line built on top - JamBridge, JamConnect, JamGuard, JamCare, JamCloud. The Jam prefix marks everything commercial. You can use AJ FHIR components without any Jam product, or deploy Jam products knowing the infrastructure underneath is open and auditable.
JamBridge is licensed annually per hospital connection. Each connected facility (hospital or clinic sending HL7v2 feeds) counts as one connection. Volume discounts apply for national HIE deployments connecting 10 or more facilities. The licence includes the full JamBridge feature set - all 7 message types, admin portal, ATNA audit, and BridgeConfig country-agnostic configuration. Contact us for a quote.
Yes. Every AJ FHIR component - Auth Server, SMART Client, HAPI Plugin, Consent Manager, Immunisation App, Referral Module - is Apache 2.0 licensed and free to use in any environment, commercial or otherwise. Community support via GitHub Issues. Commercial support contracts (Standard, Enterprise, Government) are available if you need SLA guarantees, named engineers, or HIPAA BAA documentation.
No. The IdP federation layer connects directly to your Azure AD tenant via OAuth2 / OpenID Connect. Clinicians use their existing hospital credentials. No new password store, no directory sync.
No. The HAPI FHIR Plugin is a drop-in JAR. Add it to your classpath, configure two properties. Your data and configuration are untouched.
Yes. HIPAA BAA is available for Standard, Enterprise, and Government support customers. We have standard BAA templates ready.
Single-facility with Azure AD and Epic (SMART only): 3-6 weeks. Multi-facility with HL7v2 gateway and MPI: 6-12 weeks. Full national HIE deployment: 3-6 months. We provide a detailed project plan after the initial assessment call.
